Asbestos products dangerous for health

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is the name of a group of fibrous metamorphic minerals with long and thin fibers. It is a set of six naturally occurring silicate minerals used commercially for their desirable physical properties.

Asbestos became increasingly popular among manufacturers and builders in the late 19th century because of its sound absorption, average tensile strength, and its resistance to fire, heat, electrical and chemical damage. It was once used widely as electrical insulation for hotplate wiring and in building insulation, but had also discontinued its use because it could endanger health  in the 1920′s.

Despite being aware of the dangers of its exposure as early as the 1920′s, the companies continued to manufacture its products for use in factories, mills, shipyards and other industrial environments.
